EQUIPMENT BUYER’S BRIEF

Water-cooled chiller supply and replacement enquiries

A water-cooled chiller enquiry needs both the chilled-water duty and the condenser-water conditions. For central plant procurement, tell us which equipment is being purchased and which systems already exist on site.

What is a water-cooled chiller system?

A water-cooled chiller transfers heat to a condenser-water circuit. The project must provide a suitable means of rejecting that heat, commonly a cooling tower, together with the required pumps and controls. Confirm the full plant arrangement with the project engineer before comparing equipment.

What changes a water-cooled chiller price?

Request a quotation against a dated equipment schedule and specified chilled-water and condenser-water conditions. Identify whether cooling towers, pumps, water treatment and controls are existing, locally supplied or included in the offer. Compare equipment costs and project installation costs separately.

What belongs in a water-cooled chiller RFQ?

Provide the required cooling duty, chilled-water entering and leaving temperatures, condenser-water entering and leaving temperatures, water flow and electrical supply. Include the proposed operating hours, available plant-room space and required delivery date. Mark unconfirmed values for your designer to resolve before final selection.

Are cooling towers and pumps included?

Define the scope explicitly. Identify the cooling tower, condenser-water pumps, chilled-water pumps, valves and controls as existing, locally supplied or requested in the proposal. Ask for equipment interfaces and available pressure-drop information so the local design team can coordinate the system.

How do I compare air-cooled and water-cooled proposals?

Compare complete system scope, not only the chiller purchase price. Ask your engineer to evaluate heat-rejection arrangements, water availability, plant space, maintenance responsibilities and project operating conditions. Request performance data for the exact model offered; one design is not automatically the better choice for every site.
