Precision Air Conditioning for Data Centres: RFQ Checklist

State the facility and the equipment boundary

Describe whether the project is a data hall, server room, edge facility or another technical space. Identify the air-conditioning equipment being purchased and the systems already provided by others. If the facility also uses liquid cooling, identify the remaining room-air duty separately. A room-air-conditioning inquiry should define those interfaces before equipment is selected.

Ask for sensible duty at the design conditions

Electronics cooling requires attention to sensible heat removal. Total cooling capacity alone is not enough to compare an IT-room duty with a comfort-cooling unit. Give the expected current and future heat loads and the design entering-air conditions. Ask for sensible capacity and the selection conditions for each proposed configuration, including how low-load operation will be addressed.

Describe the airflow path

Provide the room or rack layout and the intended supply and return arrangement. Identify raised-floor or other distribution constraints, containment if present, access routes and service space. Ask your facility designer to define the required airflow and pressure conditions at the equipment interface. Make clear which parts of the distribution system are included in the supplier’s scope.

Define the DX or chilled-water interfaces

For a direct-expansion proposal, identify the proposed heat-rejection arrangement and provide the outdoor conditions and route information needed for selection. For chilled water, provide the supply and return temperatures, available flow and system interface requirements. These are different equipment arrangements; request confirmation of the applicable series and accessories instead of assuming that an existing model can serve either one.

Write a continuity and monitoring brief

Describe the required operating duty and the capacity that must remain available during maintenance or an equipment outage. Ask how the proposed units will be coordinated and which controls are included. List alarm, monitoring, restart and building-management interfaces for review with the local integrator. Equipment quantity alone does not establish that the facility meets a particular availability classification.

Agree the purchasing and service scope

Send the facility country, heat-load brief, layout, operating conditions, preferred cooling arrangement, equipment quantities and project schedule. Request the model list, selection data, electrical information, outline drawings, controls description and available market documents. Identify the local installation and service team and agree remote or site support separately.
